DESIGN OF METAL CONSTRUCTIONS

WHAT IS METAL STRUCTURE

One of the services that Metal Trust Engineering offers to its clients is the design of metal structures.

The metal structure serves as the basis for the construction of various facilities — residential complexes, industrial buildings, bridges, etc. It is characterized by strength, corrosion resistance, and durability. It can be made of different types of metal: steel, aluminum, stainless steel, etc.

It is further divided into several subtypes, including truss-beam frame construction, full-wall beam-frame construction, and tubular-structure construction.

The planning process is divided into two main phases: a technical design and a working design with manufacturing (BMD) drawings.

1

TECHNICAL PROJECT

It includes several important stages, as the design of metal structures begins with the definition of the task requested by the client and the preparation of clear requirements and specifications—functional, aesthetic, and technical. This phase covers a few more basic steps:

TECHNICAL PROJECT

It includes several important stages, as the design of metal structures begins with the definition of the task requested by the client and the preparation of clear requirements and specifications - functional, aesthetic and technical. This phase covers a few more basic steps:

Here it is specified where the elements (columns, beams, connections, etc.) will be placed. An important role is also played by the choice of suitable materials, with which the given structure will subsequently be built. Factors that must be taken into account are the mechanical properties of the particular metal—steel, aluminum, etc.—as well as its resistance to corrosion.

With its help, the way in which the elements will be organized and connected and how they will be connected to the foundations will be determined.

Determining the loads to which the structure will be subjected is of utmost importance for the design and, subsequently, the execution of the assigned task. These can be wind, earthquakes, large temperature differences, snow, etc.

It represents the calculation of the structure and obtaining the shear forces.

At this stage, it is determined what the minimum and maximum efforts will be for each element.

When designing metal structures, it is important to determine the shape, dimensions, and configuration of the structure. At this stage, the size and shape of the cross-sections of the elements are specified.

The next step in the preparation of the technical project is the construction of the connection between the elements.

This includes the preparation of plans and sections, specifying the work on the details, as well as what the sections will be.

Once it is ready, the technical project can be submitted to the municipality to obtain a building permit. Offers for the implementation of the project can be requested both before its submission to the municipality and after this step.

2

working design and production (KMD) drawings

The next stage in the process of designing metal structures is the preparation of production drawings, according to which each individual element is manufactured, transported, and installed on the given site.

The working project is negotiated with the author of the technical project or by signing a contract with the metal construction contractor after approval/coordination with the author of the technical project.

Metal Trust Engineering offers the only design of metal structures, taking into account all design norms and individual preferences and requirements of the client.

About me

Metal Trust Engineering was founded by engineer Vasil Vassilev. Graduated from the University of Architecture, Construction and Geodesy (UASG) in 2002, Engineer Vasilev has over 22 years of experience in Design, Monitoring and Control of the execution of metal structures.

After two years of work for a German designer company and twenty years for a Bulgarian company as a contractor of metal structures, Eng. Vassilev's portfolio includes over 140 successfully designed metal structures and preliminary design studies for over 900 structures - from warehouses, offices, houses and distilleries to crane overpasses and retaining walls.
